There are several things you can do to protect your online account:
- Never reveal your user name and password to anyone.
- Never write it down where anyone can find it or figure out what it is.
- Change your password frequently within your profile.
- Always sign off before accessing other Internet sites.
- Always sign off before leaving your computer.
- If other people have access to your computer, clear your browser’s cache to remove copies of web pages that may have been stored temporarily on your system. Refer to your browser’s Help file for instructions on clearing your cache.
Ideas to make your password difficult for others to figure out:
- Combine letters and numbers.
- Use the initial letters of a phrase, instead of words.
- Don’t use names of people, places or things.
- Don’t use something people would associate with you.
What is encryption and why do I need it?
Encryption is a security device that keeps information that passes through the Internet private and secure. To maximize protection, your browser must support 256-bit encryption. This 256-bit encryption level is more secure than the standard level of 128-bit.
With most browsers, an icon of a key or a lock appears in the bottom toolbar of your screen indicating that you are in an encrypted or secure session and that the information being transmitted is protected and encrypted. To upgrade, please click on one of the following links:
What happens if I forget to log off?
For security reasons, your online session will automatically “timeout” after 10 minutes of inactivity. This ensures that no one can manipulate your online accounts if you leave your computer while still logged in. We encourage you to log out for maximum security when you are finished with the system or you walk away from your computer.
What is ‘phishing’ and how do I protect myself from it?
‘Phishing’ is the practice of sending an e-mail to a consumer to falsely obtain personal or billing information. Often company logos and formats are duplicated to give the e-mail a legitimate appearance, but their intent is to trick the consumer into providing private information (Social Security Number, PIN, bank account or credit card numbers, etc.).
To avoid being phished, do not respond to any e-mail requests for billing or personal information. It is not TD bank policy to ask you for personal information online through an unsecured e-mail. If you think you’ve been phished, report the suspicious activity by calling the customer service number on the back of your credit card.
